All property within Forest Hills is regulated by the City of Columbia. All dwellings must be occupied by a family or family unit. Dwelling unit means any dwelling designed, occupied or intended for occupancy by a single-family unit. A structure or part of a structure shall be considered a dwelling unit where any one of a number elements are proposed or present.
Family means an individual; or two or more persons related by blood or marriage living together; or a group of individuals, of not more than three persons, not related by blood or marriage but living together as a single housekeeping unit.
Rental Property
Some homes within the Forest Hills neighborhood are rentals. Note that all owners of rental property are required to register them with the City. Read more about rental property.
Yards
All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or plant growth in excess of knee height. See regulations.
Rights of way
All persons who own real estate in the city which abuts upon any street right-of-way shall be required to keep that portion of the right-of-way which lies between the property line and the street side of the gutter of the adjoining street free from unsightly vegetation or other things which would mar or detract from the beauty and cleanliness of the street upon which their property abuts.
