Palladium Tour A Century of Style in Forest Hills

Historic Columbia will have their Palladium Tour A Century of Style in Forest Hills on April 6, 2025, to explore  a curated group of homes that showcase varied styles of architecture while learning about the history of Forest Hills and the people who have called it home.

This is a self-guided, self-paced walking tour that will happen in conjunction with the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association’s centennial celebration. The tour will conclude with a neighborhood party where attendees will enjoy food, drinks, and the southern hospitality that defines much of our community.  See your Forest Hills neighborhood email for a discount code for purchasing tickets. Here is the link to purchase tickets.

100th anniversary of the Forest Hills Neighborhood

Dear neighbors, I am thrilled to announce an exciting milestone for our beloved community: the 100th anniversary of the Forest Hills Neighborhood. This centennial year will be an opportunity to reflect on our rich history, celebrate our community, and honor the people who have made Forest Hills a special place to call home.

One of the highlights of our celebration will be the Spring Palladium Tour, organized in partnership with Historic Columbia. Forest Hills will serve as the site of this prestigious event, featuring a walking tour of homes that showcases the charm and character of our neighborhood. The tour will offer a glimpse into the architectural beauty and historic significance that defines Forest Hills, with opportunities to learn more about its origins dating back to the 19th century.

The neighborhood’s story began in 1859 when Wade Hampton III purchased 100 acres just outside the City of Columbia and built his country home, Diamond Hill, on what is now Westminster Drive. Though the home was lost in 1865, a stone pillar at Westminster and Stratford Roads commemorates the site. Later, Benjamin L. Abney purchased the land, renaming it Abney Park and constructing the home at 1400 Westminster Drive, which remains the oldest standing structure in Forest Hills.

Our Centennial Celebration is a unique moment for all of us to connect with each other and deepen our appreciation for Forest Hills’ place in Columbia’s story. I encourage everyone to get involved, whether by volunteering, attending events, or simply sharing your own stories about life in Forest Hills.

Stay tuned for more updates as we approach this monumental year. If you have ideas or wish to volunteer, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association board. Together, let’s make 2025 a year to remember!

Warm regards,
David Turner
President

Watch your neighbor’s back!

Vandals look for opportunity, including signs of vacancy.  If you are traveling during the upcoming weeks, make sure you have someone pick up your mail, newspaper, and other delivered items daily.  If you've ordered something, consider using the Fedex or UPS alternate delivery features to hold the package or send it elsewhere. Look out for each other. It's the very best protection. Or get a big dog. For more tips, visit our security page.

Great resource for pet owners!

If you have lost or found a pet, a great place to report this is on the Chasing the Tails Pet Patrol Facebook page. They have great success in reuniting pets and owners.
