Pinehurst Annual Back-to-School Event Supply Drive
May 26, 2010
Forest Hills Residents - here is a letter from Brenda Oliver, Pinehurst Community Neighborhood Council President, requesting donations for their Annual Back-to-School Event supply drive. Please consider making a donation.
Dear Friends of Pinehurst;
We are once again preparing for the annual back to school event for the children in the Pinehurst Community. This is an exciting event for the Pinehurst children, and part of our continued effort to build a closely knit, friendly, safe neighborhood. Our event this year is scheduled for Saturday August 7, 2010 from 11 am to 3 pm at Pinehurst Park.
In addition to food, fun and games, we provide each child with plenty of school supplies to help get them prepared for the upcoming school year. Many of our children would otherwise lack the necessary tools to start school in the fall.
In order to supply 150 children with book bags and the adequate amount of supplies needed it costs us $3,000 to operate this event. This comes to less than $25 spent on each child.
To ensure that the children that need it the most are assisted, we have established a pre-registration and a screening process to verify the eligibility of the children. Any person donating can rest assured that the children who need the assistance are in fact being helped.
Won't you be one of the "Friends of Pinehurst"? All donors will be acknowledged, unless they choose not to be. Please make your tax deductible contribution to The Pinehurst Neighborhood Council, and mail to PO Box 4454, Columbia, SC 29240. In order for us to plan adequately, we need to have all contributions no later than July 6, 2009.
There will also be an opportunity for anybody who donates and wishes to volunteer at the event. If you would like to assist in the hands on process for this event please contact us.
You may also call me at (803) 603-3034 for additional information. We are looking to you for assistance and know that we can count on you. Again, we thank you for your support. We couldn't do it without you!
Sincerely,
Brenda Oliver, President
