CPC Meeting 2
02/06/2008 - Second Meeting of Character Protection Committee (CPC)
Attending: George Bailey, Lee Ruef, Barbara Rackes, Mary McCants, Jenny Smith, John Cloyd
The Committee on Character Protection of the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association met Wednesday, February 6 from 5 until 6:30 PM. Chairperson Rackes delivered notebooks to all members of the committee with copies of the amended Interim Measures currently being considered by the Columbia City Council as well as procedural documents related to application for historic designation by the City of Columbia.
George Bailey described some of the legal research he had done in the matter and noted that he was comfortable moving forward once Forest Hills incorporation papers were confirmed. He will return to the next meeting with that information in hand.
Mary McCants described previous work completed for the National Register that could be used as part of the data required for historic designation, thus reducing to some degree the amount of paperwork required.
Chairperson Rackes suggested that the commitee break into two areas: interim measures and historic designation. Mr. Cloyd agreed to bring maps of the neighborhood to the next meeting so that the committee could review properties to be protected with greater specificity. Jenny Smith agreed to work with Mary McCants on application for historic designation.
In discussion, the committee requested a meeting with Amy Moore, City Preservation Officer for the City of Columbia and made arrangements to meet either the following Tuesday or Wednesday, subject to Ms. Moore's availability.
The Committee voted unanimously to recommend to the full Board of the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association that it move forward immediately with application for both protection under the City's interim measures and permanent historic designation.
The meeting was adjourned.
